What did you do in the military?
I served as a Landing Support Specialist in the United States Marine Corps. The core of my job in logistics was to load ships, airplanes, rail cars and helicopters. The most exciting part of my job was to rig equipment, such as humvees and howitzers, to fly below helicopters. We would hook them up to the bottom of the helicopter while it was hovering over our heads.
During my 4 years of service, I spent over a year on Naval ships and visiting 17 different countries. I really enjoyed my time in the Marines Corps and would not trade those experiences for anything on this earth.
My first job at Shaw was as a creeler in the Summer after high school. I thought that would be the only time I worked in carpet. That summer is when I decided to join the Marine Corps on a whim. I went on a military leave of absence for 4 years and came back to Shaw at the end of my enlistment. Shaw is a great company to work for and has always been a great part of the northwest Georgia community.
Shaw has given me the opportunity to grow and to prove my capabilities and has allowed me to gain experience in many different areas, such as Manufacturing, Production Planning, Customer Service, and Information Systems.
What are you doing now?
I work on the IS Strategic Planning Team. We partner with the business and I.S. teams to design, implement and enhance high quality services, practices and information systems. That means I get to work with many different functional areas, here at Shaw, which enables me to continuously learn while I do my job.
